Holden Manz Big G

Ruby red.

Blend: 63% Cabernet Sauvignon, 37% Cabernet Franc
At a recent (June 2018) tasting evening I got to share some of this wine with Gerard Holden, not only was it voted by our group of 25 people as the wine of the evening (out of more than 25 wine farms there) but one of the most “unique” styled Bordeaux blends they’d ever tasted, it was truly remarkable and highly recommended.
The 2013 harvest exceeded expectations in terms of volume and quality. Although the crop was harvested later than usual and over a short time, the cold, wet winter created ideal weather conditions during the flowering and berry set period. Moderate weather conditions during this harvest season contributed to the size and quality of this year’s harvest. 2012/13 was a particularly healthy year from a disease perspective.
Alluring aromas of black cherries, dark and red plums, nuances of vanilla pod and liquorice backed with hints of cedar wood and pencil shavings.
Elegant yet full bodied with a firm, balanced tannin structure backed by a well layered dark fruit finish with hints of dark cherries and chocolate. Mid palate is full of dark fruit with long lingering flavours.
This full and balanced structure ensures excellent ageing potential of up to 10 years.

Personal Food pairing:
Beef Wellington or winter warming daube de boeuf.
